Comedy show by Patrick Monahan, part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival, in which he makes the case that he is more Freddie Mercury than a terrorist.
Patrick Monahan brings his new show, I'm not a terrorist, I'm Freddie Mercury, to The Canalhouse on Tuesday 3 November. It's part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival, so it's one of a few comedy nights running across the city that week.
The title isn't just a joke. The whole hour is built around Monahan arguing that he has more in common with Freddie Mercury than with Hezbollah. He works his way there through stories of turned-down visas and restricted access, using those experiences to build a 60-minute set that sets out to prove he isn't a terrorist. It's a comedy act, so the punchlines come from the absurdity of the comparison rather than the politics of it.
Monahan is the only name on the bill for this one, so it's just him on stage for the full hour. The Scotsman described his humour as 'an irresistible force', which gives you a fair idea of the energy he brings to the room. It's a solo show, not a variety night, so you'll get a single, coherent thread running from the first joke to the last.
