Drama by Brian Gorman about Joy Division and Ian Curtis, tracing the band's Manchester roots and its transformation into New Order.
New Dawn Fades comes to Nottingham Playhouse on Tuesday 20 October, a play that traces the story of Joy Division, the influential 1970s punk band that emerged from Manchester's music scene, and its frontman Ian Curtis. It follows the band's rise and the aftermath of Curtis's death, and how they eventually became New Order.
Written by award-winning playwright Brian Gorman, the production first debuted at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival in July 2013 and has played to capacity crowds and standing ovations since. It's staged by producers Nigel Carr and Tony Davidson and directed by Lauren Greenwood, who returns to the production in her role as Debbie Curtis. The show runs 110 minutes, is recommended for ages 15 and over, and its soundtrack leans on iconic late-1970s UK music. Along the way it introduces figures such as the Roman general Julius Agricola, Dr John Dee, Friedrich Engels, Paul Morley and Buzzcocks' Pete Shelley.
