Steam weekend at Papplewick Pumping Station with the steam engines running, the Whitby Krampus Run parades, drumming workshops and family activities.
Papplewick Pumping Station is running the Kramplewick Steam Event on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November, from 10am to 4pm both days. It's the station's newest weekend, and they've built it around medieval Nordic folklore and myth, so it's a bit of a departure from their usual steam days.
On the steam side, the station runs all its engines, including the James Watt beam engines and the Galloway boiler. You can also head down to the underground reservoir, see the Linby Colliery winding engine, and watch a resident blacksmith at work. There's a miniature steam railway on site, RC boats on the cooling pond, and a children's play area, so it works as a family day out even if you've never been near a boiler before.
The Nordic theme comes through the Whitby Krampus Run, which adds costumed parades and drumming workshops to the mix. There's live entertainment and interactive family activities with RIKA ACE, and artisan trade stalls including Lincoln Green Brewery and Trinifusion. The whole thing is set against the ornate Victorian waterworks, and the Krampus characters bring a bit of folklore to the industrial backdrop.
