Stand-up comedy show with James Smith and Callum Scouller at Cock and Hoop, Nottingham Comedy Festival.
James Smith and Callum Scouller are bringing their show Top and Bottom to the Cock & Hoop on Saturday 7 November, as part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival. It's a double act that works on a pretty simple premise: they met in the middle of the UK, with Scouller coming from Scotland and Smith from the south. The whole thing leans into that divide, drawing on their different experiences of family, lifestyle, dating and childhood from opposite ends of the country, and it throws in their take on Yorkshire as well.
On stage, that contrast is what drives the set. They play with the stereotypes of their respective backgrounds — the sort of thing that pits a childhood of Waitrose zero-calorie crisps against one of deep-fried pizzas. It's a mix of short, snappy jokes and longer, funny stories, so it doesn't just sit in one gear. The two of them trade off, playing the different sides of the divide against each other, and the comedy comes from seeing those two worlds side by side.
