Creative writing workshop on horror and the effects of fear led by authors Moira Hodgkinson and Jae Malone, The Scare Sisters.
The Scare Sisters are running a creative writing workshop on horror and the effects of fear at Nottingham Central Library on Saturday 31 October. It's a two-hour session, 13:30 to 15:30, and it falls on Halloween, so the timing fits the subject.
The Scare Sisters are authors Moira Hodgkinson and Jae Malone. Both are long-standing members of the East Midlands Society of Authors and both sit on the organising committee of the Nottingham Book Festival 2026. Between them, they bring a fair bit of writing experience to the table. Moira has been a practising witch for over forty years, working both solitary and in a coven; she's written feature articles for mind-body-spirit magazines, four non-fiction books on witchcraft and related subjects, and six novels that run through contemporary pagan fiction, the Katy Hunter teen-witch series, paranormal fantasy and horror, with short stories in five anthologies. She's also in the final year of an MA in Creative Writing and lives on the edge of Sherwood Forest.
Jae (Julie) has been writing for over 20 years and recently released her 15th book. For two decades she's supported aspiring authors, organises book and arts festivals, Meet the Author events and annual creative writing competitions, and is a regular guest on local TV and radio. For the last three and a half years, she's been Organiser of the Society of Authors East Midlands Group.
