Interactive musical show in which Gareth Malone conducts his live band, singers and local choirs through iconic songs from films.
Gareth Malone brings Sing-A-Long-Gareth: At The Movies to Nottingham Playhouse on Sunday 18 October, with the show starting at 15:00. It's an interactive musical experience, and the title tells you exactly what to expect: you're invited to sing along to iconic film music, guided by Malone himself as conductor and choirmaster.
He won't be on his own. He's backed by a live band, singers and local choirs, and the set pulls from a wide range of soundtracks. You'll hear songs from Singin' in the Rain, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Top Gun, La La Land, Frozen and Moana — so it runs from old-school Hollywood and 80s blockbusters to modern musicals and Disney. The whole thing lasts 110 minutes and is suitable for all ages, which makes it a decent shout for a Sunday afternoon with the family.
If you only know him from the telly, there's a bit more to the background. Malone is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied with Janice Chapman and Jonathan Papp. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of East Anglia and the Freedom of the City of London in 2010, and an OBE in the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to music. He's earned the nickname 'the man who got the nation singing' through award-winning series like The Choir, The Choir: Military Wives and Sing While You Work, all of which built on the same idea of bringing people together to sing.
