Children's theatre space adventure with puppets, music and interactive storytelling for 3-8 year olds.
Earth Calling Bear-stronaut comes to Nottingham Playhouse on Friday 19 February 2027, as part of the venue's Children's Theatre strand. It's a space adventure for 3 to 8 year olds, built around original music, puppets and interactive storytelling, so it's one of those shows where the kids are meant to get involved rather than just sit still.
The story follows Kai, a snow bear who doesn't quite fit in with the rest of his crowd. While the other bears are all about snow and fish, Kai is different: he loves the moon. The show follows him as he finds the courage to be himself, even when he feels a bit out of this world, and takes him on a journey full of snowballs, space snails and moon cheese sandwiches. It's a simple enough premise, but it's the way it's put together that does the heavy lifting — the puppets and the music carry the story, and the interactive bits keep the younger ones engaged throughout.
There's a bit more to it than just the performance, too. After the show, there's a green screen workshop where the audience gets to build their own paper cup snow bear, so the kids can take something home with them rather than just a memory of the afternoon. It's a nice extra that turns the whole thing into a bit of a creative session rather than just a seated show.
