Austin singer-songwriter David Ramirez plays The Old Cold Store with his band, performing his album 'All the Not So Gentle Reminders'.
David Ramirez plays The Old Cold Store on Saturday 23 January, bringing his latest album, All the Not So Gentle Reminders, to Nottingham. He's an Austin, Texas singer-songwriter with six full-length studio albums and three EPs behind him, alongside a long list of collaborations and a turn in the supergroup Glorietta.
All the Not So Gentle Reminders is a twelve-song record he tracked at Spectra Studios in Cedar Park, just outside Austin. He describes the process as coming after a season away from writing to work through the grief of a long relationship ending, and he says he wanted to create as a human rather than as an artist. The songs that came out of that are a succession of dreamlike pieces dealing with memory, dreams, fleeting romance and his appreciation of music. A few of them — 'Dirty Martini', 'Twin Sized Beds', 'A Bigger World', 'Dreams Come True' and 'A World of Our Own' — run long, with extended musical intros and outros that give the songs room to stretch.
Ramirez is the main feature of the night, with support still to be confirmed. The set will centre on the new album, so if you've got it on repeat, this is when you'll hear those longer tracks played out in full. It's a Texas songwriter coming over to Nottingham, and the new record is the one he's touring.
