Screening of short films directed by women, including 'Ackee and Saltfish' and 'Halima - How To Stay Strong', followed by a panel and Q&A with the filmmakers at the Norwich Film Festival.
Women in Film is showing at Cinema City on Thursday 12 November, as part of the Norwich Film Festival. It's a selection of short films directed by women, and the screening is followed by a panel and Q&A with selected filmmakers, so you'll get to hear from the people behind the work after the credits roll.
The line-up includes Ackee and Saltfish, Halima - How To Stay Strong, Pregnant, Rain in August, The Intimacy Coordinator and The Two Week Wait. It's a good mix of titles to sit through in one go, and the Q&A afterwards is where you can pick up on the stories that didn't make it into the films themselves.
The screening is one of 21 themed nights that make up the Norwich Film Festival 2026, which runs from 6 to 15 November. The festival curates 136 shortlisted short films into these themed slots, with strands covering Comedy, Sci-Fi, Documentary, Animation, LGBTQ+, Women in Film, East Anglian talent and Family Friendly films, and many of them followed by filmmaker Q&As like this one. New for 2026 is an East Anglian Student Showcase, and there are Short Film Screening Bundles if you want to catch more than one night. The festival has been running since 2009 and is a BAFTA and BIFA qualifying short film festival, having screened over 1,000 films to the public. It was named by The Metro as one of 'the top UK film festivals you need to know about', with celebrity patrons including Stephen Fry, Olivia Colman and Brian Cox, and a Grand Jury that's welcomed Neve Campbell, Michael Sheen and Emma Freud. Festival director Rachel Prendergast leads the programme.
