Author Zadie Smith discusses her new essay collection 'Dead and Alive' with an audience Q&A and book signing at the University of East Anglia.
Zadie Smith is coming to Lecture Theatre 1, UEA on Wednesday 4 November, her first visit to the University of East Anglia in more than two decades. She was last at the university twenty-one years ago, so it's been a long time coming. The talk is part of the UEA Live autumn programme, and it's built around her new collection of essays, Dead and Alive.
Smith is one of the most distinctive and acclaimed writers of her generation, known for White Teeth, On Beauty and Swing Time. She's built a reputation for thinking through some of the most urgent preoccupations of our troubled times with a combination of critical distance and human empathy, and Dead and Alive is the latest addition to that body of work. The evening is chaired by Dr Nathan Ashman, a lecturer in crime writing at UEA, who'll be in conversation with her about the new collection.
It's not just a one-way talk, either. The session includes an audience Q&A, so you'll get a chance to ask your own questions, and there's a book signing afterwards. Books will be available to purchase on the night, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own copy if you're coming along without one.
