18+ tasting evening led by Peter Grady of Mount St Bernard Trappist Brewery about Trappist beer history, traditions and brewing.
Bier Draak on King Street is hosting a Trappist beer tasting on Thursday 29 October, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. It's an 18+ evening, so you'll need to be of age to get in. The night is led by Peter Grady, Brewery & Operations Manager at Mount St Bernard Trappist Brewery, the home of Tynt Meadow.
Grady's session works its way through the history, traditions and brewing philosophy of Trappist monasteries. He'll explain what actually makes a beer a Trappist beer, and how those brews differ from abbey ales, which often get lumped together. There's also a look at the role the monks play in production and the story of how brewing returned to Mount St Bernard Abbey.
Along the way, you'll taste a selection from renowned Trappist breweries, so you can compare the styles as the session goes. It's a three-hour window, which gives plenty of time to work through the beers and the talk without having to rush through them.
