Adults-only Christmas musical that mashes up Moulin Rouge and A Christmas Carol, set in the Moulin Beige club in Soho.
Moulin Scrooge runs at Norwich Theatre (Playhouse) from 9 to 19 December, with all performances starting at 7:30 pm. It's an adults-only musical that mashes up Moulin Rouge with A Christmas Carol, and it's strictly 18+.
The story is set in the heyday of Soho at the Moulin Beige, a club where the chichi and the chavvy partied together. At the centre is the 'rough diamond' star Satôn, alongside club owner Astrid Zeneca and You-in McGregor, a young bogan from Brisbane who falls madly for her. When the club hits financial difficulty, Satôn is visited by clients past, present and emerging. It's a twist on a well-known fable, but the setting is Soho rather than Victorian London.
On stage, the show leans on larger-than-life characters and adult humour rather than family pantomime, and it's pitched as a festive night out for couples, friends or colleagues. It's written by Trevor Ashley and Phil Scott, with Satôn as the star. The run is ten days long, so there are plenty of dates to choose from across the first half of December.
