The Misfit Collective play their skifflegrass, a mix of banjo, bass and tuba, across Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at Pogue Mahons.
The Misfit Collective play Pogue Mahons on Saturday 21 November, from 21:00 to 23:00. They're a trio that calls their sound 'skifflegrass' — a bluegrassy-skiffley genre they claim to have coined themselves. It's a mix that smooths together banjo strumming, bass twanging and tub-thumping, and they've been playing live music for years.
Their set is built around well-known songs that they rework with that skiffley touch, rather than a programme of original material. They describe themselves as young, virile and hugely talented, and a reviewer called them a slick, professional and perfectly balanced trio whose tongue-in-cheek approach kept her dancing from dusk till dawn. It's the kind of gig that works as much for the dancing as for the listening.
