The Magic Numbers play the Norwich Arts Centre, with free entry for under-26s.
The Magic Numbers play Norwich Arts Centre on Friday 27 November, with doors opening at 7pm and the show starting at 8pm. It's a four-piece built around two sets of siblings — Romeo and Michele Stodart, and Sean and Angela Gannon — and that family connection is right at the heart of their sound: the signature harmonies, the melodic hooks, and the songwriting they've become known for.
They first made a name for themselves by selling out London's Kentish Town Forum on the strength of their following, before their self-titled debut album arrived in 2005. That record earned a Mercury Prize nomination and sold over a million copies worldwide, and it gave us the top-ten singles 'Forever Lost', 'Love Me Like You' and 'Love is a Game'. Since then, they've kept working, with their fifth album, Outsiders, coming out in 2018.
There's plenty going on around the edges of the band, too. Romeo Stodart has written and produced for Jane Birkin, Natalie Imbruglia and Ren Harvieu, co-wrote 'Close your eyes' with the Chemical Brothers, and produced Billy Bragg's most recent album. Michele has released three critically acclaimed solo albums of her own. As a group, they've supported Neil Young, Brian Wilson, Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, The Who, U2, Elbow and Bright Eyes.
