The Stuttgart Philharmonic, conducted by Mariano Chiacchiarini, plays Mendelssohn, Mozart and Brahms with the young pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason.
The Stuttgart Philharmonic play Norwich Theatre Royal on Sunday 22 November, with pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason and conductor Mariano Chiacchiarini. It's a full evening of Romantic and Classical repertoire, running about an hour and 50 minutes with an interval.
The programme opens with Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, known as Fingal's Cave, followed by Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor KV466, which puts Kanneh-Mason at the front. The second half closes with Brahms's Symphony No. 3, a work Elgar famously called his favourite symphony.
Kanneh-Mason is a young pianist whose family have made a mark on British music in recent years. She was a BBC Young Musician finalist in 2018 and is a Sony Classical artist; she made her international debut at the BBC Proms and released the album Fantasie in March 2025, which went on to be nominated for an Edison Award. The orchestra is the Stuttgart Philharmonic, the orchestra of the state capital of Baden-Württemberg. It was founded in 1924 on the initiative of unemployed musicians, disbanded in 1933, and re-founded after the war. These days they stage over 120 events a year for more than 100,000 people and run 'Beethoven Days'.
