Touring West End production of the family musical Annie, with Claire Sweeney as Miss Hannigan, at Norwich Theatre Royal.
Annie comes to Norwich Theatre Royal from Tuesday 2 to Sunday 7 February 2027, a one-week run that brings the West End production to the city. It's the family musical most of us know by heart, set in New York during the Great Depression. The story follows the orphans of the Hudson Street Orphanage, run by the spiteful matron Miss Hannigan, until Grace, assistant to the billionaire Oliver Warbucks, asks one of them to spend Christmas at his mansion. Annie wins over the crotchety businessman, while Hannigan hatches a plan to spoil her search for her real parents.
The score is by Charles Strouse with lyrics by Martin Charnin, and it holds the songs you'll recognise: 'It's the Hard-Knock Life', 'Easy Street', 'I Don't Need Anything But You' and 'Tomorrow'. The book is by Thomas Meehan, and the production is directed by Nikolai Foster with choreography by Nick Winston. It's a Tony Award-winning book and score, and this version is part of a UK and Ireland tour produced by Michael Harrison and David Ian, which opened at New Wimbledon Theatre on 23 May 2026.
Claire Sweeney takes the role of Miss Hannigan, with Tanisha-Mae Brown as Grace Farrell, Christian Cooper as Rooster and Amber Kennedy as Lily St Regis. They're joined by Jack Buchanan, Harrison Burley, Zoe Canham, Sophie Elmes, Belle Kizzy Green, Issy Khogali, Yujin Park, Elliot David Parkes, Carl Sanderson, Michaela Stern, Matthew Sweet and Jessica Wright. The press has been kind to it: The Daily Telegraph called it 'Lavish Escapism', The Times 'A Glorious Revival' and OK! Magazine 'An All-Singing All-Dancing Triumph'.
