Free acoustic indie-folk gig by the duo South of Polaris with support from Hunter's Moon at The Bicycle Shop.
South of Polaris play The Bicycle Shop on Thursday 22 October, with Hunter's Moon opening the night. It's an acoustic indie-folk bill, so if you're in the mood for something stripped-back on a Thursday evening, this is a good shout.
South of Polaris are an acoustic indie-folk duo, Danii Reales and Saul Diaz. They've been described as an important contribution to the folk tradition and an exciting addition to the UK folk scene, and their sound carries a specific blend: flamenco influence from southern Spain mixed with a love of folk and rock, all held together by thoughtful, poignant lyrics. It's that flamenco thread that sets them apart from a lot of the acoustic acts you'll find around here.
They've played their way across the UK, from the Ventnor Fringe on the Isle of Wight to The Albany in London and The Horn in St Albans. Their music has picked up airplay on Alan Ritson's Fine Folk at Lincoln City Radio, The Folk Club on Burwell Radio, BBC Introducing, and Cambridge 105fm. They were also nominated for an NMG Award in the Folk and Americana category, alongside Elizabeth & Jameson, Imlac, and Christina Alden & Alex Patterson, and were set to release their debut album, The Year After.
