Workshop for 11-13 year olds in which readers and authors A. J. Low use dice to create characters in a tabletop role-playing game style.
A. J. Low are at the National Centre for Writing at Dragon Hall on Thursday 29 October, running a tabletop role-playing workshop for 11 to 13-year-olds. The session is called Roll With It: Stories Get Dicey!, and it's built around creating detectives and suspects. Young readers team up with the authors and use dice to roll character stats in a TTRPG style, so you'll be building your own characters from the ground up. You don't need any prior experience with role-playing games to join in, and the dice are provided on the day. Everyone takes home a copy of Sherlock Sam and the Fiendish Heist in London.
Behind the name A. J. Low is a husband-and-wife writing team born and raised in Singapore: Felicia Low-Jimenez and Adan Jimenez. Felicia has been a geek most of her life, studied anime and manga, wrote fanfiction, and now writes a webcomic; she was a bookseller and now works in publishing. Adan is a writer, translator and prose, comics and localisation editor, the child of Mexican immigrant parents who became an immigrant himself when he moved to Singapore, and who loves comics, LEGO, books, games, science fiction and food. Together they write the Sherlock Sam mystery series.
