Puppet show in which Steve Tiplady as Geppetto brings the tale of Pinocchio to life with puppets, shadows, illusion and composed music, recommended for ages 4+.
Pinocchio! comes to Norwich Theatre Stage Two on Tuesday 1 June and Wednesday 2 June, with shows at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm both days. It's a puppet show that takes the old story and tells it from the workshop floor, with Steve Tiplady as Geppetto. The whole thing is built around the objects of a carpenter's workshop: Pinocchio is carved on stage, brushes turn into a fox, and the shadow of two saws becomes a giant shark. It's a story about a puppet who wants to be a real boy and the puppet-maker who wants to be a real father, and the way it's put together—puppetry, shadows, illusion and specially composed music—makes it something for all ages.
There's an element of improvisation to it, so each performance is a little different from the last. The Guardian called it "wonderful work that celebrates the possibilities of theatre," and The Scotsman described it as "truly magical... hauntingly real." It's recommended for ages 4 and up, so it's one you can take the kids to without worrying they'll get bored.

The show is part of Stage Two's 10th anniversary, so it's one of the productions marking a decade for the space. It runs for about 55 minutes with no interval, which keeps it tight and easy to fit around a day out. Tickets start from £14.00, and with the 11:00 am and 2:00 pm slots, it's well-placed for a morning or afternoon trip.
