CATS

CATS comes to Norwich Theatre Royal from Tuesday 16 February, running for two weeks only until Saturday 27 February. It's a brand new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie, who also did Brigadoon and Jesus Christ Superstar. The show is presented by Regent's Park Open Air Theatre as part of a major UK and Ireland tour.

If you're coming to it for the first time, the musical is based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. It's one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history: it premiered at the New London Theatre in 1981, played for 21 years and almost 9,000 performances, and won the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Musical. The 1983 Broadway production took seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Since then, it's been staged in over 54 countries, translated into 23 languages, and seen by more than 77 million people worldwide. The Broadway cast recording also won a Grammy for Best Cast Album.

The score includes the songs you'll likely recognise: 'Memory', 'Jellicle Ball', and 'Macavity: The Mystery Cat'. This particular production is directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie, and it's being brought to the city by Regent's Park Open Air Theatre as part of their tour across the UK and Ireland.

Performances run from Tuesday 16 February through to Saturday 27 February, with shows on Tuesday 16, Wednesday 17, Thursday 18, Friday 19, Saturday 20, Sunday 21, Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24, Thursday 25, and Saturday 27 February. Times are 2:00pm and 7:30pm, and tickets start from £21.20, going up to £26.50. You'll find it at Norwich Theatre Royal, Theatre Street, Norwich, Norfolk NR2 1RL.
