A play by Hannah Khalil about a woman recreating her mother's Persian dishes on stage, with live cooking.
My English Persian Kitchen comes to Norwich Theatre Stage Two on Saturday 6 March 2027, starting at 7:30 pm. It's a play about a woman starting again after losing everything, and she does it by going back to the tastes and smells of her mother's kitchen. She recreates the dishes of her childhood and her homeland, and builds a new life and a new community around that food, with live cooking on stage throughout.
It's written by the award-winning Hannah Khalil, based on a story by Atoosa Sepehr. The play first went on at the Traverse Theatre as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and it's been produced by both Soho Theatre and Traverse Theatre. Critics have called it 'utterly sensational', a 'flavourful feast' and 'masterfully staged'.
