New Adventures' dance production of Cinderella, set in London during the Blitz, on its 30th anniversary tour.
Matthew Bourne's Cinderella comes to Norwich Theatre Royal from 6 to 10 April 2027, as part of the New Adventures 30th Anniversary tour. It's one of the company's most popular and beloved productions, and this run marks three decades since it first went out.
If you know the fairytale, you've got the basics, but Bourne moves the story to London in 1940, during the Second World War. Cinderella meets a young RAF pilot and the two fall in love, before the horrors of the Blitz tear them apart. The whole thing is told entirely through dance, set to Prokofiev's score, and the company describes it as a tribute to the spirit of London during the war. It's recommended for ages 8 and over.
The production brings together a familiar team: designs by Lez Brotherston, lighting by Neil Austin, video and projection by Duncan McLean, and sound design by Paul Groothuis. The Norwich run also includes a couple of accessible options: an audio-described performance on Saturday 10 April with a touch tour at 1pm, and a BSL-interpreted Q&A following the Wednesday 7 April show.
