Stand-up storytelling show by Matt Winning about fatherhood, finance and climate, inspired by The Big Short and The Lehman Trilogy.
Matt Winning brings his show Solastalgia to Norwich Theatre on Saturday 20 February, playing in Stage Two. It's a comedy show that puts fatherhood, finance and the climate in the same room, and it's built around a pretty absurd starting point: Dr Matt Winning is given an ultimatum to save the world by lunchtime tomorrow or sell his soul for a slice of Rockefeller's fortune, all while his son is being born and he's desperate for a pee.
From there it opens up into a larger story about fatherhood, finance, fossil fuels and facing the future. Winning blends storytelling and comedy to pull together cutting-edge science and world-changing economic predictions, so the personal stakes of a new father sit right alongside the global ones. He describes it as a funny, profoundly human piece about climate and pensions, and it's clear where the influences come from: he cites The Big Short and The Lehman Trilogy, alongside dad bods.
It's not a brand-new run, either. The show played several sold-out runs at the Soho Theatre in 2026 and was recommended by the British Comedy Guide back in 2025, so it's had a good bit of time to find its feet before it reaches Norwich. The staging here runs for about an hour with no interval, and it's recommended for ages 14 and over.
