Screening of 18 horror and dark comedy short films, a favourite of the Norwich Film Festival short film programme.
Late Night Shorts returns to Cinema City on Friday 13 November, part of the Norwich Film Festival's short film programme. It's a session of horror and dark comedy shorts, the kind of night that works best when you're in a dark cinema with a crowd around you. This year's bill brings together 18 short films, including Barber of the Gods, Homonym, Knitting Club, Mr. Vapey Man, Night Feeds, The Sorrows of Young Charlotte and What Goes Round.
It's one of the festival's audience favourites, and it sits within a much larger short film programme. This year, the festival has curated 136 shortlisted films into 21 themed screenings at Cinema City, covering comedy, sci-fi, documentary, animation, LGBTQ+, women in film and East Anglian talent, with filmmaker Q&As following many of them. Late Night Shorts is the horror and dark comedy slot in that mix.
For a bit of context, the Norwich Film Festival was founded in 2009 as a BAFTA and BIFA qualifier, showcasing local, national and international independent and mainstream filmmakers. It's launched films that went on to win BAFTAs and Oscars, as well as awards at Sundance, Tribeca and South by Southwest. It's a registered charity run by volunteers, and its patrons include Olivia Colman, Stephen Fry, Julian Jarrold, Tim McInnerny, Brian Cox and John Cleese. Since its start, it's screened over 1,400 shorts and is rated in the top 100 on FilmFreeway.
