Screening of the 20th anniversary restoration of Guillermo del Toro's dark fantasy film Pan's Labyrinth at Cinema City, a Picturehouse cinema in Norwich.
Cinema City is screening a 20th anniversary restoration of Pan's Labyrinth on Friday 30 October, part of a run that opens on 18 October and continues until 12 December. Guillermo del Toro's dark fairy tale is set in post-civil war Spain, and the restoration brings it back to the big screen just as the film hits its two-decade mark.
The story follows ten-year-old Ofelia, who moves with her pregnant mother into the home of her cruel stepfather. There she's drawn into a mysterious labyrinth, where she meets a faun who tells her she may be a lost princess from an underground kingdom. To return to her true father, she has to complete a series of surreal and perilous tasks that blur the line between reality and fantasy. It's a film that sits right on that edge, and seeing it restored on the big screen does it justice.
The cast includes Sergi Lopez, Maribel Verdú, Doug Jones, Ivana Baquero, Ariadna Gil and Álex Angulo, with the whole thing running 119 minutes. It carries a 15 certificate, so it's not one for the younger ones, even with the fairy-tale framing.

Cinema City itself is a three-screen Picturehouse in Norwich, housed in the 17th-century Suckling House, with vaulted ceilings, stone arches and antique panelled rooms. There's a courtyard and the on-site bar and kitchen, The Dining Rooms, if you fancy a drink or a bite before or after. The restoration runs from 18 October through to 12 December, so if the 30th doesn't suit, you've got plenty of other dates to choose from.
