Free drop-in family day of craft, storytelling and puppet making with Rootling Theatre at the National Centre for Writing for the Norwich Book Festival.
The National Centre for Writing is hosting a Halloween Family Imagination Day on Monday 26 October, from 10.00 to 15.00. It's part of the Norwich Book Festival, and the centre is turning its medieval home and enclosed garden into a safe space for play and storytelling, with hands-on craft activities, a book nook, an explorer bag, giant outdoor games and drawing and colouring. The day also marks The Big Draw, the world's largest celebration of drawing.
The main feature is a pop-up puppet making session run by Rootling Theatre, a Norfolk-based puppetry company. It runs from 10.00 to 12.30, and visitors make their own Wicked Witch. One half of the company, Ella Daymond, is a puppet maker and facilitator whose work focuses on giving young people the chance to make their own stories.
The day is part of the centre's engagement with the UNESCO City of Literature (UNESCO City of Stories) initiative, and the Family Imagination Days are made possible with the National Lottery Heritage Fund and further supported by Norwich Freemen's Charity. The building is largely wheelchair accessible, with platform lifts, accessible toilets and a hearing loop.
