Family opera by Kerry Andrew that brings David Wiesner's picture book to life with music, movement and storytelling for children aged 2-6.
Flotsam comes to Norwich Theatre Stage Two on Wednesday 28 October, with two performances on the one day: 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. It's a new opera by Kerry Andrew, who wrote the music and words, and it's a stage adaptation of David Wiesner's picture book. It's produced by OperaUpClose and Half Moon, and it's recommended for children aged 2-6 and their families.
The story starts when a curious child finds a mysterious camera washed up on the beach. The photographs inside reveal a chain of children linked across time and space, and an extraordinary underwater world: turtles carrying cities, starfish dancing, and octopi reading by lamplight. Those images unlock the boy's imagination and give him the courage to connect with other children and make new friends. Andrew's score and text carry the story, which runs about 35 minutes with no interval.
