Alt-folk night with Dermot Henry and special guest Alfie Bowles at Voodoo Daddy's Showroom.
Dermot Henry plays Voodoo Daddy's Showroom on Thursday 12 November, with Alfie Bowles opening. It's an alt-folk night presented by Live Nation and Communion One.
Henry is a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from Wiltshire, described as a vital new voice in alt-folk with a rustic sound that draws on Adrianne Lenker and Elliott Smith. He grew up on his parents' records, from The Beatles and Tom Waits to Nina Simone, and cut his teeth during a year living in Paris, where he played regularly at a local bar and busked the city streets. He found his first busking partner there after a stranger forgot the words to Elizabeth Cotten's 'Freight Train' and he jumped in to sing.
His EP Aiming Torches At The Sun, recorded in Frome with Dom Monks, includes 'My Favourite Book Is One I've Read A Bunch', written while he was away from everyone he loved, and the more contemplative 'Little Rib'. He's also the artist behind the album Bad Throw, Good Catch. Both the EP and the album sit within that alt-folk territory, and the set will draw from that material.
