Festive winter solstice evening at The Cat House with fake candles, fairy lights, wintry music, mulled wine and hot chocolate.
The Cat House is hosting Christmas Cats By Candlelight on Saturday 19 December, a festive evening lounge session that marks their winter solstice event. It's a night for hanging out with the cats in a candlelit setting, with fake candles and fairy lights, wintry music, mulled wine, and hot chocolate to keep things cosy. The whole thing is built around the cats, so you can spend the evening just relaxing with them in a festive atmosphere.
If you haven't been, The Cat House is a cat lounge and cat-themed arts centre and gallery on Dereham Road, home to around 20 mostly rescue cats from eleven different breeds. It runs as a calm, library-like space rather than a typical cat cafรฉ, and it's as much about art as it is about animals. There are workshops and classes running throughout the year โ clay cats, cat life drawing, cat painting, cat tarot, origami, macramรฉ, diamond art, glass painting, decoupage, stone painting, and tote bag design, with cat yoga every Wednesday. Around 30 to 40 local artists hang and sell their work on the walls, so it's a gallery you can wander through while the cats are about.

The place opened in 2024, inspired by the founder's mother, and has helped rehome more than 30 cats without charge. It's a quiet spot, and the cats are the main draw, so it's more of a place to settle in than a quick stop. The venue is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for cat care, and entry is for ages 10 and over only, with a maximum of two under-15s per adult. Christmas Cats By Candlelight falls on a Saturday, so it's a good one for a weekend evening when you're not rushing anywhere.
