German-style Christmas market with around 80 wooden chalets, local makers, winter street food, live music and fairground games at Chapelfield Gardens.
Christkindl Market returns to Chapelfield Gardens from Friday 11 December to Sunday 20 December, running every day from 10am to 9pm. It's Norwich's first German-style festive market on this scale, run by Fine City Events Ltd and inspired by the classic Christmas markets of Germany and Austria.
For ten days, Chapelfield Gardens is turned into an Alpine village of around 80 wooden chalets draped in twinkling lights. There are roasting fire pits and a food court built around the historic Bandstand, serving winter street food, hot chocolates, traditional Glühwein and festive craft ales, alongside a Wildcraft Brewery marquee bar. The organisers champion local and regional makers, so the stalls are filled with handmade gifts, jewellery, decorations and homewares from across Norfolk and East Anglia, and they aim to be single-use plastic free.
A rotating schedule of live performances by local bands, community choirs, dance troupes and acoustic musicians plays out at the bandstand, and fairground games add to the atmosphere. It's a good spot for a slow wander through the stalls with a drink in hand, especially when the lights are on in the evenings.
