Charlie Connelly brings his show about the Shipping Forecast to the Norwich stage, celebrating the broadcast's history and cultural impact.
Charlie Connelly brings Attention All Shipping to Norwich Theatre on Tuesday 30 March, a show that turns the Shipping Forecast into a full evening on stage. The forecast is entering its second century, and Connelly's take on it is a celebration of what he calls the greatest invention of the modern age.
He doesn't just read the thing, either. He goes into the history of the broadcast and the people who made it, and explains what all those curious phrases actually mean. He charts its cultural impact and shares adventures from his own journey through the 31 sea areas, building his case for the forecast as our finest achievement. The whole thing is inspired by his bestselling book on the subject, which has sold more than a quarter-of-a-million copies.
