Sophie McCartney: Back in the Day Rave

Sophie McCartney is back at Boiler Shop on Saturday 30 January 2027, for a comedy day rave that starts at 13:00. It's a bit of a departure from your usual Saturday afternoon — comedy, dancing, drinks, games and prizes all in one go, rather than a stand-up set in a quiet room. The whole thing kicks off in the middle of the day, so you're in and out while it's still light.

McCartney is an award-winning comedian and a Sunday Times number one bestselling author, and this is her first time back on the road after a phenomenal debut tour. She first made a name for herself online in 2017 with a mum parody of Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You', and her take on modern-day 'mumming' has since earned her a cult following of more than 1.25 million social media fans. The show leans into the question of what life looks like when you're too old to be young but too young to be old, and she describes it as promising sequins, sporty laughs and a pair of killer orthopaedic heels.

Because it's a day rave, the comedy is just one part of the afternoon. There's dancing, drinks, games and prizes mixed in, so it's as much about the atmosphere as the stand-up. The Newcastle date is an over-18s event, which fits the rave side of things better than a standard comedy night. It's at Boiler Shop, Stephenson Works, South Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 3PE, starting at 13:00 on Saturday 30 January.
