Home education science workshop for children aged 11 and over to investigate chemical reactions that create a glowing end product.
Let it Glow is a chemistry workshop for home-educated children, running at the Life Science Centre in Newcastle. It's part of the centre's Home Education Days, which are dedicated sessions for home-educated kids to get stuck into curriculum-linked workshops led in fully equipped labs or Making Studios. On these days, the centre is closed to school groups but stays open to the general public, and the workshops run to a different timetable than on school days.
This particular session is built around winter lights. It links to the science curriculum through working scientifically, changes of state and the rock cycle. The main thing you'll be doing is carrying out a series of chemical reactions to investigate how different reactions create a glowing end product. Safety glasses are provided for everyone taking part, and the recommended age is 11 and over.
