A new-writing showcase and development event where North East-based writers perform their work in progress with live feedback from theatre experts.
Live Writes Autumn is at Live Theatre on Tuesday 10 November, the latest in Live Theatre's new series of new-writing showcase and development events. They describe it as a 'scratch night, with a twist', and the whole thing is built around open calls for North East-based writers, directors and actors. It's meant to be a safe, supportive space where writers can get their work on its feet and hear it out loud, with live feedback from a panel of theatre experts on the night.
The format is stripped back: rehearsals, tech and performance all happen over one day, with no set and minimal props. Writers perform their own work, either as a solo piece or with up to three additional performers. The open calls run four times a year and are open only to artists based in the North East, with every creative receiving a same-day fee of £150.

It sits within Live Theatre's wider vision of 'a North East that writes its own story and fights for a more creative future', and is supported by Arts Council England, the Community Foundation and the European Regional Development Fund. If you're into seeing new work at an early stage, this is exactly that: a night of new writing from across the region, performed in the round at Live Theatre on 10 November.
