Musical comedy Rosé Tinted by Flat & the Curves, presented by Lee Martin for Gag Reflex, at Northern Stage.
Flat & the Curves bring their musical comedy Rosé Tinted to Northern Stage on Thursday 5 November, and it's their first ever Newcastle gig. The show is presented by Lee Martin for Gag Reflex, and it's an all-female act that formed during lockdown from the team behind the sell-out Sht-Faced Showtime and the award-winning Four Femmes on the Thames*.
The set is built around smutty original songs that pay homage to the divas who came before them. They pull from a wide range of styles: ABBA-themed anthems, jazz divas, 90s girl bands, and classical primadonnas. The songs sit alongside a look at the friendships forged through wine-induced wisdom, and the act asks if the best years are the ones they can't quite remember after 300 hangovers, four trips to A&E, and a divorce. It's a musical comedy that doesn't shy away from the messier side of long-term friendship.
They've built a decent reputation along the way. They came runner-up at the Musical Comedy Awards 2021 and were nominated for an ISH Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show, and they've appeared on the BBC. The press has been on board too: the Sunday Express called them "the most dynamic music-group to hit the comedy circuit in 40 years," and The Scotsman described them as "electrifying... powerhouse cabaret."
