The award-winning musical Legally Blonde, based on the hit movie, comes to Newcastle at the Theatre Royal.
Legally Blonde The Musical plays at the Theatre Royal from Tuesday 12 to Sunday 17 May, a run of six days in the heart of the city. It's the stage version of the 2001 film, arriving on the boards a quarter of a century after its screen debut.
The story follows Elle Woods, dumped by her boyfriend Warner for not being the serious girlfriend he needs as he heads to Harvard Law School. She follows him there and transforms from an It Girl fashionista into a legal ace, eventually winning a case for workout star Brooke Wyndham while her hairdresser Paulette carries a subplot of her own. The show updates the original with nods to Instagram, YouTube and Facetiming, but keeps the iconic moments like 'Bend & Snap', 'Snaaaaps' and the courtroom number 'There, Right There'.
Amber Davies takes the lead as Elle Woods, except for the Thursday 14 May 2pm matinee, when the role is played by Hannah Lowther. Davies is a Strictly Come Dancing finalist who's also appeared in Pretty Woman and 9 to 5 The Musical. The production is staged by the same creative team as director Nikolai Foster's Kinky Boots, and it's backed by a live orchestra. There are also two celebrity dogs in the cast: Bruiser Woods, played by Sprout the Chihuahua, and Rufus, played by Milo the Bulldog.
