The UK's number one magic show returns with a new and uplifting production, presented by James Phelan.
James Phelan is coming to Northern Stage on Friday 18 December, with his show The Man Who Was Magic taking over Stage 1. It's billed as the UK's number one magic show, and it's a new production, so it's not just a run-through of the same material he's been touring for years.
If you don't know Phelan, he's an award-winning magician who's spent the last five years playing sold-out shows around the world. He holds a bit of a record, too: he's the first magician in history to sell out a solo run at The Magic Circle. Most people remember him for the time he jammed the BBC switchboard after correctly predicting the lottery, and that's the kind of high-profile, high-stakes stuff he's built his name on. This new show is described as an uplifting production, and it's a completely new piece of work rather than a greatest hits set.
It's a proper night out, not a quick stop. The show runs for about two hours and twenty-five minutes, which includes the interval, so you've got plenty of time to settle in. A couple of things to keep in mind before you book: it's recommended for ages 12 and over, as there's strong language and strobe lighting throughout. If you're bringing younger ones, that's the one to watch.
