A creative club celebrating zine culture through writing, art and DIY publishing, held on the second Thursday of the month.
The Zine Club runs at Newcastle City Library on the second Thursday of the month, with eleven sessions running from 12 February to 10 December 2026. Each one goes from 5:30 to 7:30pm, so it's a mid-week evening thing rather than a weekend commitment. The club is part of The Zine Project, a grassroots initiative that puts Zine Boxes — small outdoor cabinets purpose-built by a local Men's Shed — across neighbourhoods to encourage people to discover zines and make their own. Zines themselves are small, self-published works, often made from a single sheet of paper and photocopied into physical prints.
The club brings together writers, artists and DIY publishers to celebrate Newcastle's zine culture, blending writing, art, collage and publishing as a platform for creative expression. The sessions are self-directed and peer-led, with support from community-engagement artist Nina Katzmarski. Each one also sets aside time to fold zines for distribution to the Zine Street libraries, so what you make doesn't just sit on a shelf — it goes back out into the community.

All supplies and materials are provided by the library, though you're welcome to bring your own if you've got specific things you like to work with. The Zine Project's prototype and test phase was supported by the City of Newcastle through a Quick Response Grant in 2022. The club is free, and all tickets are free, with sessions running from 5:30 to 7:30pm on the second Thursday of the month from 12 February to 10 December 2026 at Newcastle City Library, 15 Laman Street, Newcastle NSW 2300.
