Slow Sketch Sunday at Meantime on Beaumont

The Tipsy Sketching Club is running a long-pose life drawing session at Meantime on Beaumont on Sunday 23 August, with another one to follow on 20 September. Both start at 1:30pm in The Loft, Level 3, 104 Beaumont Street, Hamilton.

If you've ever done a life drawing class, you know the drill: the model changes every few minutes, and you're scrambling to get a gesture down before the pose shifts. This one is the opposite. It's a slower, more immersive session that trades the rapid-fire changes for long, considered poses. A handful of short warm-ups ease the room in, and then the session settles into poses that hold for 20 to 30 minutes each. That's enough time to actually look—to work into the form, the tone, the composition and the detail—rather than just sketching the outline and moving on.

Because it's held in the bar setting of Meantime on Beaumont, one of Hamilton's favourite neighbourhood locals, it's not a silent studio. Natural breaks open up for drinks, food, conversation and sharing work, so the creative side sits alongside the social one. You can bring your own preferred mediums or use the drawing materials provided, and it's open to all experience levels, from first-time life drawers to established artists. It's as much about the company as the drawing.

It's A$35 a session, and since there are two dates—23 August and 20 September—you can drop in for one or make a habit of it. Both kick off at 1:30pm in The Loft, Level 3, 104 Beaumont Street, Hamilton.
