Hands-on contemporary art workshops for children and families at The Lock-Up, running on the last Saturday of each month.
Crafternoons are back at The Lock-Up on Saturday 31 October, the latest in the gallery's monthly contemporary art program for children and families. It runs from 12.30 to 3.30pm, and you can drop in whenever suits you during that window.
If you haven't come across them before, Crafternoons are hands-on workshops that run on the last Saturday of every month. Each session is built around a specific exhibition or theme from the gallery's program, so what you'll be making changes from month to month. The activities are material-based and designed to spark curiosity, conversation and creativity across generations, rather than just following a set of instructions. It's pitched as a good option for kids who love making things and want something with a bit more substance than a standard craft activity.
The Lock-Up is at 90 Hunter Street in Muloobinba/Newcastle, and they describe themselves as a space 'for communities and our imaginaries'. This particular session takes place in the Exercise Yard, and the venue is wheelchair-accessible.
