A prestigious horse racing day featuring the Group 3 Newcastle Gold Cup, launching the 2026 Spring Racing Carnival.
The Sharpe Office Newcastle Gold Cup Race Day is on at Newcastle Racecourse on Friday 18 September, and it's one of the biggest dates on the city's social and sporting calendar. It's more than just a single race, too โ it's the official launch of the 2026 Spring Racing Carnival, so it kicks off the whole season.
There are three big races on the card. The main event is the Group 3 Newcastle Gold Cup, run over 2300 metres with a A$300,000 purse. Alongside that is the Group 3 Tibbie Stakes, with A$250,000 up for grabs, and the Cameron Handicap, a 1500-metre sprint also carrying A$250,000. Between the three, there's A$800,000 on the line over the course of the day.
It's not all about the racing, though. The day is built as a celebration of racing excellence and refined hospitality, pairing the world-class racing with premium networking opportunities. It's as much a social occasion as a sporting one, so it's the kind of day that works whether you're there for the horses or just for the atmosphere.
