Our Throsby Seafood Festival

Our Throsby Seafood Festival takes over Pier 97 in Wickham on Saturday 12 September, from 11am to 5pm. It's a free waterfront day out set across Newcastle's working harbour at Throsby Basin, in a spot the organisers describe as 'where the harbour meets the good life'.

The seafood is the main draw, and there's plenty to watch as well as eat. Japanese seafood expert Narito Ishii will be doing live sashimi presentations, and there are live shucking and filleting demonstrations to see how the oysters and fish are handled. Beyond the demos, the day brings together market stalls, a family zone, and live music on the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club pontoon. There's also a craft pop-up bar on the water stocking local producers like Earp Distilling Co., Shout Brewing Co., and Inner City Wine Makers, so you can grab a drink and stay a while.

If you're around for more than just the Saturday, the festival is part of the Throsby Seafood Trail, which runs from 7 to 13 September. Throughout that week, restaurants, pubs, and cafes across the five Throsby villages will be serving seafood specials, so the festival is the big peak of a broader celebration of the area's seafood. The organisers also acknowledge the Awabakal and Worimi peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waterways surrounding Throsby Creek.
