A 20km social run through Newcastle with stops at local bakeries for pastries and coffee.
The Newy Bun Run is on this Saturday, 19 September, starting from Smith Park in Hamilton North. It's a 20km social run through Newcastle, and the whole thing is built around the opposite of a race day: instead of pushing for a PB, the route stops at local bakeries along the way for fresh pastries, coffee and a bit of community spirit. The distance is a decent stretch, but the pace is meant to be slow enough that you can actually enjoy the stops rather than just rushing through them.
That's the whole point of it. The run trades the usual race-day intensity for a slower gear, with the bakeries acting as the real landmarks of the course. You'll be moving through the city, but the focus is on the pastries and the coffee you pick up as you go, and the people you're running with. It's as much about the stops as it is about the kilometres.
It's a social run, so it's less about the clock and more about the company. If you're usually the one trailing the pack or you prefer a jog that lets you actually talk to the people around you, this is exactly that kind of thing. You'll be covering 20km, but you'll be doing it with a few bakery breaks built in to keep the mood light.
