A series of stand-up comedy nights featuring local Newcastle talent and special guest performers from across Australia.
The Newcastle Comedy Club is running its showcase on Friday and Saturday nights from 21 to 31 October, at the club's home at 139 Maitland Road, Islington. It's a New York-style room in the heart of Newcastle, and the format is straightforward: a night of stand-up comedy with a mix of local talent from the Newcastle region and special guest performers coming in from Sydney, Melbourne and beyond. If you've been following the local scene, you'll know that's how these showcases usually work โ a few familiar faces from around here sharing the bill with acts from interstate.
The club has a bit of a track record with the bigger names in Australian comedy, too. Wil Anderson and Tom Gleeson have both played here, and the venue positions itself as the go-to spot for the hottest comedy shows in town. It's a dedicated comedy room, so you're not watching a stand-up act squeezed into the corner of a pub; the whole space is set up for the show.

There's a bar and a restaurant on site, so you can sort dinner and drinks without leaving the building. The room is non-smoking, and the club welcomes people with access needs, which is a good detail to have in mind if you're planning the night with a group. Tickets are A$39.00 to A$42.00, and with the showcase running every Friday and Saturday night across those two weeks, there are plenty of dates to choose from.
