Friday and Saturday showcase of stand-up comedy pairing local Newcastle talent with special guest performers from Sydney, Melbourne and beyond.
Newcastle Comedy Club is running its showcase on Friday and Saturday nights, with this particular session falling on Saturday 24 October. It's held at the Newcastle Comedy Club, 139 Maitland Road in Islington, and runs from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
The format is a pairing of local talent from the Newcastle region with special guest performers coming in from Sydney, Melbourne and beyond. It's a showcase in the truest sense: a mix of the city's own comics and names from the wider Australian circuit sharing the same bill. The club positions itself as the go-to destination for the hottest comedy shows in town, and this showcase is the regular night that keeps the room going.
There's some history to the venue as well. It's a New York-style room in the heart of Newcastle that has attracted major names in Australian comedy over the years, including Wil Anderson and Tom Gleeson. It's a non-smoking space with a bar and a restaurant on-site, and they make a point of welcoming people with access needs.
