A high-energy Queen tribute concert aboard the MV Calmer on Newcastle Harbour, featuring the Killer Queen Experience.
The Killer Queen Experience are taking over the Queens Wharf Terminal on Saturday 15 August for a Queen tribute cruise around Newcastle Harbour. The show is fronted by Freddie Mercury impersonator John Blunt, and the band bills itself as Australia's leading tribute to Queen. They'll be performing on the MV Calmer, the harbour's premier super-yacht, for a three-and-a-half-hour cruise.
The set pulls from the band's biggest hits: 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'We Will Rock You', 'We Are the Champions', 'Somebody to Love' and 'Don't Stop Me Now'. They do it with authentic costumes, replica instruments and live harmonies, so it's a full-on recreation rather than a stripped-back cover set. The whole thing happens while you're out on the water, with the harbour as the backdrop for the duration of the cruise.
It's an 18+ event, and there are licensed bars on board, with food and drinks available to purchase throughout the night. There's no BYO food or drinks, so you'll be relying on what's served on the boat. The dress code is smart casual, though rock glam is encouraged if you're in the mood to lean into the theme. A word of warning on footwear: the organisers advise against tall or pointy heels, so maybe leave the stilettos at home for this one.
