A relaxed book chat series where attendees discuss favourite books over a cuppa, with the November session focusing on Science Fiction and Fantasy.
Genre Journeys is a book chat series running at Newcastle City Library, with sessions on Monday 13 July, Monday 14 September and Monday 16 November. Each one runs from 5:30 to 6:30pm, an hour's worth of talking books on a Monday evening.
It's billed as 'a book chat with a difference', and that difference is that there's no set reading list. You don't have to finish a particular book to take part, and there's no pressure to have read anything at all before you turn up. Instead, you're invited to bring along whatever you've been reading lately and share what you loved — or didn't — over a cuppa in a friendly, social setting. It's a relaxed, welcoming space for readers who enjoy talking about books as much as reading them, and a chance to hear fresh perspectives and pick up recommendations from other book lovers.
Each session focuses on a different genre, so the conversation shifts as the series goes along. The first, on 13 July, is Graphic Novels; the second, on 14 September, is Classics; and the third, on 16 November, is Science Fiction and Fantasy. If you've got a particular genre you're working your way through, or one you've always wanted to get into, you can pick the session that fits.
