A 15km point-to-point run, walk or roll on the Fernleigh Track from Adamstown to Belmont, with a 1500m race for kids.
Fernleigh 15 returns to the Fernleigh Track on Sunday 18 October, a point-to-point 15km run, walk or roll from Adamstown to Belmont. The start is at the corner of Park Avenue and Bailey Street in Adamstown, and the finish is 15km along the track at Belmont TAFE on Alick Street.
The course follows the Fernleigh Track, a former rail line that's become one of the most popular running and riding routes across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. On race day the track is closed to the public, and the course runs it for the full distance except for an out-and-back section at Cowlishaw Street in Redhead. It rises slightly for the first 5km before descending for the remaining 10km, so you'll be working your way up for the first third and coasting down for the rest.
There's a separate race for the younger ones too: the Fernleigh 1500 is a 1500m sprint for children under 17 that starts and finishes in Belmont. Every finisher gets a commemorative medal, and prizes are reserved for the overall male and female winners. Dogs aren't permitted on the course.
