The Drag Roast Tour brings glitter and gut-punching comedy as roasting queens trade glamour for insults, hosted by Reuben Kaye.
The Drag Roast comes to the Newcastle Civic Theatre on Sunday 19 July, as part of a national tour that's billed as an Australian first. It brings together some of the world's most notorious roasting queens on one stage, and the whole thing is hosted by Reuben Kaye.
If you're not familiar with the format, it's exactly what the name says. The show trades the usual drag glamour for gut-punching comedy, with the queens spending the night roasting each other. The glitter is still there, but the focus is on the insults. Between the roast segments, there are full performances, big numbers and scandalous stunts, so it's as much a drag show as it is a comedy night.
The line-up is a heavy one: Art Simone, Darlene Mitchell, Jane Don't, Nicole Paige Brooks, Raja, Thorgy Thor and Willam. That's seven queens on the bill, each taking their turn in the hot seat and firing back when it's their go. Holding the whole thing together is Reuben Kaye, an award-winning queer cabaret icon known for razor-sharp wit, powerhouse vocals and unapologetically bold, high-glamour performances. He'll be the one keeping the pace and making sure no one gets off too easy.

It's a big cast for one night, and with the roast format, the energy changes depending on who's on the mic. The Civic Theatre is at 375 Hunter Street, Newcastle, 2300, and the show runs on Sunday 19 July. If you've got a thing for drag and a taste for a bit of a slagging, this is the one to keep an eye on.
