Colin Hay brings his world-class band from LA to revisit the quintessential songs of his 80s outfit Men At Work.
Men At Work are playing the Civic Theatre on Wednesday 18 November, as part of an Australian tour that brings the band back to the stage. The show is fronted by Colin Hay, who was the group's original lead singer and principal songwriter — the voice and the pen behind the songs that first made them known around the world.
It's a set built on the songs of the 80s outfit, the ones that defined the band's early years and stayed in the public consciousness long after. Hay is bringing a world-class band with him from LA to play them, and he's described the night as a revisit of those quintessential songs. The tour is a multi-city run, with the Newcastle date fitting into a schedule that takes them to the State Theatre in Sydney on 20 October, the Royal Theatre in Canberra on 30 October, the Palais Theatre in Melbourne on 4 November, and Fremantle Prison on 12 November. Newcastle is one of the later stops, coming after the Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Fremantle dates.

For anyone who knows the band, Hay is the familiar face and voice at the centre of it. His career has been shaped by those early records, and this tour is a return to that material. The band he's bringing over from LA will be the one backing him through the set, so the songs will be played by a full group rather than as solo versions. It's a night of the songs that made the band's mark, played live in the Civic Theatre on 18 November.
